FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

A bomba is a filter straw with a round sieve at the bottom. The sieve prevents you from drinking mate leaves. Simply place it in the mate cup, pour in the water, and drink. No paper filter, no waste. Repeat this until the mate is completely rinsed out.
The Bomba comes from the Brazilian Chimarrão tradition, where the mate has a very fine powder content and therefore requires a particularly fine sieve.

The bombilla filters the yerba mate leaves as you drink. Without it, you would ingest both the leaves and the powder. This allows you to re-infuse your caámate multiple times without drinking the leaves – always a fresh infusion as needed, until the caámate is completely rinsed.

The bomba is not a drinking straw with a filter. The mate goes into the drinking vessel (calabash).

After use, simply rinse with a little dish soap and water, then let it dry. If necessary, place in the dishwasher.

Tip: Boil with baking soda once or twice a year – this will remove deposits and make the Bomba shine like new.
