Description & Details

You decide the taste.
The cuia is the Brazilian mate cup – and probably the simplest way to prepare mate. The unique feature: the mate sits on top of the plate, not in the water below. You pour, drink, and pour again. Too weak? Simply rinse fresh leaves into the center for the next infusion.

Whether strong or mild – you decide.

Because you don't pour it all at once, you get the maximum out of your mate leaves. More infusions, more mate, less waste.
The infusions are milder than those from a traditional gourd. Perfect for beginners – but also for anyone who prefers a more relaxed experience.

Works with all types of mate – not just fine chimarrão. The cuia is made of ceramic, is tasteless and dishwasher safe.

Fits bombas from 16 to 19 cm. Holds 130–150 ml.

Each cuia is unique – the glaze behaves slightly differently with each firing. Color variations? Not a defect, but character.

Viva la Cuia.

FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

A Brazilian mate cup with a plate. Unlike an Argentinian gourd, the dry mate is not completely inside the cup, but rather on top of the plate's rim.
The principle is simple – you pour, drink, and pour again. As soon as your mate becomes too weak, you simply add fresh leaves to the center during the next infusion. This way, you control the strength of your mate.
In Brazil, it's the number one drinking vessel – usually made from a bottle gourd. We've developed a ceramic version based on this shape.

1. Place the Bomba in the Cuia, fill with water (approx. 60°C) until it is just barely in the bowl.
2. Place the mate on top of the plate – form a small mound and spread it evenly.
3. Wait approximately 1 minute, then drink. A hole will appear in the middle.
4. Keep pouring through this hole. If you circle along the edge while pouring, you'll rinse in fresh leaves – this will keep your mate fresh and intense for longer.

How does the Cuia work?

After use, simply rinse with water and let it dry. Or put it in the dishwasher – the Cuia is dishwasher safe.

Tip: Boil with baking soda once or twice a year - this will remove deposits and make the bombilla shine like new.
